This is one crazy week. Everyone in the family has a doctor visit of some kind except for the youngest child. But, she’s not in the clear. She has an orthodontics appointment next week. Finally finished the wip…I think I’m done. I might add a few stencils or stamping in the background. I’m going to give it a few days to decide.
I used a combo of things for this piece: Gesso, watercolor, Heidi Swapp Metallic Texture Paste in Rose for her hair, acrylics by Jane Davenport for skin and lips, white acrylic paint for hair and whites of eyes, Copic markers for eye color/cheeks/highlights, Tombow Calligraphy pen to draw in her face and trace, and Pentel Gel Ink in White to color her pearls and for dots in her pupils.
I’ve been following Jane Davenport and trying a few things her way. Here’s a WIP.
Sometimes I like to sketch starting with the nose. This was one of them. Most the time I start with the eyes but for some reason I was itching to get the nose right first.
Two birthday’s ago my husband surprised me with a beautiful leather covered unlined journal. It was so beautiful that I was afraid to mark in it, but last week, I made the plunge and created my first mixed-media art journal page! I used gesso, matte medium, gauche, acrylics, hard pastels, and ink pens.
To view the steps I took to accomplish this layout, go here.
I wasn’t planning on blogging today but last evening my sister mailed me the finished brochure she and I worked on for one of her friend’s new jewelry store and I was just so excited to see the finished product that I wanted to share it.
My sister did the consulting and I was the photographer and graphic artist behind the brochure.
I’m very happy at how lovely it turned out. I’m also grateful that my sister’s friend, Gabriela, allowed me to take all the photos, edit them, create the graphics, and the brochure (excluding printing). Gabriela came over my house quite a few times with her beautiful jewelry to photo and even brought over pastries for my family! She is a wonderfully sweet and kind person.
Gabriela’s website is currently in the works but I hope you’ll stop by her site soon and take a look at her jewelry. She also has a showroom where she’ll showcase her jewelry in Colorado.
Faith Art Journal Freebie
I’ve decided to turn one of my recent art journal pieces into a free download. You can read more about it on my design blog and download from there. Or, you can click on the image below and go directly to the download page.
Earlier in the week the family went to the Downtown Aquarium in Denver with one of my sisters, her boyfriend, and one of my brothers and his kids. I’ve been wanting to go for awhile but just never seemed to have the time (or the funds). I’m glad that my sister was determined to get me to go because it was a lot of fun, especially for my girls + she paid for my girls so I am very grateful (thanks again, Jamie!).
Here are photos from the aquarium:
Digital Art Journal: Faith
Since today’s topic is on creatures of the sea (water/ocean/sea), I thought I’d also share a digital art journal piece I’ve created for a challenge at Hummie’s World that has something to do with water. You can read more about the challenge and see my drawings at my design blog, here.
